How It All Started
It all began with a random kdrama clip!! Maybe someone enjoying a steaming bowl of instant ramen, sitting quietly in a convenience store eating triangular shaped kimbap or sharing a spicy steamy pot of kimchi stew with friends at a tiny neighborhood spot. Somehow, that one scene literally left me hungry. What started as a little craving actually turned into a global food craze. What was once just curiosity, now it is quickly turning into the midnight cravings, TikTok trendy recipe trials and hunting down gochujang and instant tteokbokki. It’s more than a craze now, Korean food has officially made its mark globally. From Seoul to streets of Lahore or Karachi, Korean flavors are now finding their ways into global menus and even everyday meals.

K-Food Fever: Chopsticks Up!
Funny how our vibe this year turned into “knows different types of kimchi” and going from part time viewers to people who say, “This gochujang isn’t spicy enough for me”. But right now we’ve reached the point where eating instant ramen three nights in a row somehow feels like our identity!!! It all started with one harmless episode of a K-drama. I mean Just ONE. You played the video and saw someone eating ramen like it was their last meal before military enlistment. And you know what’s next… you’re in your kitchen and boiling noodles like you’re in MasterChef Korea, even tho you are in your pajamas with a confused cat as your only judge. And let’s not forget how our vocabulary levelled up after watching kdramas:
Gochujang??? Korean red chili paste
Banchan??? A lifestyle.
Samyang??? The one that makes you cry but somehow you still want more.

What’s Everyone Eating? K-Food that took over our kitchens
Let’s talk about the Kdrama dishes that made us google for Korean recipes. You might not know how to say “gochujang” properly but if you’ve ever paused a K-drama just to stare at the delicious food then you’ve already started your K-food journey.
Tteokbokki : The spicy rice cakes that make you cry and smile at the same time. One bite and suddenly you’re craving for the street food you’ve never had before.
Kimchi : These are fermented veggies. It’s spicy, a little firey and somehow ends up Beyoncé of the side dishes i.e; Spotlight on your plate hehehe!
Gimbap : Imagine it like Japnese sushi went on a picnic and got a bit Korean makeover. It’s rice, veggies and sometimes meat all wrapped up in seaweed.
Banana Milk : The childhood drink we didn’t know we actually needed at that time. Soft and sweet. Once you taste it, regular milk would start feeling boring.
Samyang Buldak Ramen, the fire noodles : They burned our tongues and still we keep coming back for more. Tears in your eyes after eating them but you want more!!
The main point to notice that Buldak noodles were just a spicy food challenge in the beginning. People tried them just for fun and then they couldn’t stop themselves. Now they’re in so many kitchens not only in Pakistan but in other countries as well. From “let’s try this viral challenge” to “I want to eat more,” they have finally made their mark globally!

Korea-Inspired Stores in Pakistan? Yup, It’s Real!!
Korean-style shops and cafés are slowly making their ways into Pakistani cities and honestly, they’re more than a vibe. Whether you’re craving for instant ramen late at night or just want to feel like you’re actually in a K-drama scene, a few places you may like to visit :

Seoul Station in Karachi :
It’s a mix of café and mart so that you can sit and eat or even shop. From fire noodles in a cup to cheesy corn dogs and crispy mandus, it’s like Korean street food that has been landed in Karachi. Plus the setup of that place is so aesthetic that you’ll feel like you’re in a drama scene while sipping your fav drink.

Seoul Snack Lahore is the place where Korean food meets Pakistani taste. From spicy Buldak noodles to soft mochi, it feels like a little piece of Korea right here in Lahore.

Korean Touch, Desi Love: A Blend We Didn’t Expect
No one thought Korean stores would become this popular in Pakistan but here we are. From Lahore to Karachi, small Korean style marts and cafes are opening up and people are loving the vibe. It’s not just about snacks or ramen but it’s about how these places bring something new while they are still being feeling familiar with your vibes. You visit a store and see packed Korean stuff but you’re welcomed with warm Pakistani hospitality. The food speaks for itself. It’s spicy, fun and easy to try. These little Korean inspired marts are more than judt basic shops. They’re like taste journeys into a different world and a different culture.
